CORE GROUP MEMBERS' PROCEDURES

posted Saturday, 9 July 2005

1. NAME & BLOG LINK: Teacher Sol, http://teachersol.blogspot.com

POSITION: Director of PTN (yay! pangangatawanan ko na po, hehe)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

TRADITIONAL:

- discharging monitoring and accountability functions through collations of information from the core group members and meetings with them thru email on the discharge of their responsibilities to the PTN.

- keep control of the PTN and see to it that we're on target.

NON-TRADITIONAL:

- Hay, the first step is always the toughest. But I will persist.

- I will never expect all of my members to do what I would not do.

- I will be firm, fair, friendly and dependable.

- If I have to correct someone, I will do it in private.

- When PTN members and core group team could work just as well in my absence, that's the only time I can say that I can sit back and relax.

- I will be constantly on the lookout for heroes among the members that we can emulate and admire.

- I will lead by example.

SUGGESTIONS:

- I suggest that we give suggestions so we can help each other build a better network of teachers. "Teachers Teaching Teachers", the Pinoy way, hehe.

- I suggest all of us core group members give their "plataporma de PTN" so we'll have an idea and steps to follow to make this community well organized

REFLECTION:

- I realized that the ship will sink without a captain. I cannot change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust our sail to always reach our destination.

2. NAME AND BLOG LINK: J. Angelo Racoma - http://jangelo.i.ph

POSITION: Technology Liaison

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Traditional:

  • Ensure availability of online resources to members and the general public at all times.  This includes:

  • Maintaining and managing the technical aspects of the network, such as the bulletin board/s and e-group/s

  • Keeping abreast of new trends to ensure that the group's means and methods are at par with standards

  • Ensure members are adequately equipped with the needed knowledge for the group to efficiently operate in a tech-driven space.

Non-Traditional:

  • Keep true to the hacker's ideal: explore every possible means to make the most out of any technology

  • Continue my advocacy for alternative media such as blogs and pod/video-casts

  • Blog, blog, blog

  • Act as the resident economist

SUGGESTIONS:
I am for radical changes in our public education system.  Ideas are welcome.

REFLECTION:
We should never be enslaved by technology by letting tech rule our lives.  Technology is but a tool intended to make human life easier.

.

3. NAME & BLOG LINK: Rolly delos Santos - http://titorolly.blogspot.com

POSITION: Bulletin Board Entries Moderator

5.  We will only post articles that are related to education.  We shall remain apolitical, hence, political entries are not allowed except those directly affecting education.

6. Please try to provide correct links using html codes.  It would be very tedious for us to be correcting them.

7. To give way for comments and a lengthy,  substantial discussion, we will be updating entries every Sundays and Wednesdays only.

8.  Authors shall be resonsible for the ideas contained in their entries.

9.  We will determine which entry shall be posted first.

Hi I thought of something today for PTN since I didn't give any suggestions under my task description to create more of a "fellowship-feel". These are just things I had in my mind, but they don't have to be worked on immediately.

1. Since it's the end of the month, I wanted to congratulate the new members for the month of July in a special way. I wanted to email PTN Member Certificate...u know, something they can print out, frame & hang on their walls, or scrapbook to show-off their affiliation ( as well as promote PTN). I am not tech-savvy enought to format it on Adobe Acrobat or whatever program is out there. I would just cut/paste Jonas logo and create a certificate...it's up to you in the core group to approve the look & feel of the certificate. Is this a good idea?
2. Ok down the line.....Perhaps for the PTN 1 year anniversary, we can create a powerpoint presentation that showcases our members and achievements. We would need their pictures and something inspiring about their "day in the life of an educator". I know this is way, way down the line....but would it be good to post? (I guess we would need a historian to keep track of every little thing.)
2. Since we have a good number of people who are members now, perhaps we can create a live "PTN Live Roundtable" where we can pick a day, time & topic to chat about in real-time online. Aside from commenting on blogs, it's a good way to "fellowship" with other PTN members. Good idea? Too much work? What would work? Skype, Yahoo Messenger?

hi all!

re roundtable discussion: we can use skype. i listen to several podcasts where the hosts are discussing among each other remotely. they use skype. skype can actually host up to 5 in a conference call (and that can be recorded), and the quality is crystal clear (as good as your mic / your own voice can go). it even works w/ dialup (w/ a bit of latency, of course)--so good enough for those w/o super broadband connections.

we can schedule an RTD during a weekend, get all hooked up, and record the audio then release it as a podcast. that would be way cool!

yahoo has also released a beta voip client, but i haven't tried it out. skype's still the best in terms of audio quality, but the 5-person limit is a problem. i'll check on other alternatives.

as for knowing the online status on YM and skype, most of these IM networks actually allow you to copy and paste some _javascript on your blog for this. i'll check out how to get the scripts so we can install these on the BB.

a live discussion would really be nice.

as for the payment gateway: i'll try to fiddle around with my paypal accout so i can work with the donation buttons. i've actually setup something like this for my site, but thru i.ph's pay4access: http://jangelo.i.ph/blogs/jangelo/index.php?item=contributions-accepted-421 or http://support.jangelo.i.ph .

pay4access is intended for subscription-type access, but i decided to make my site 'donationware' instead.

do we plan to setup up google adsense ads? i've come across several sites and e-books detailing how to optimize adsense for better revenues. if we do it right, we can earn well from adsense.

as for discussion, i plan to setup a wiki for our group to use as a collaborative space. A wiki is basicall a site where any member (or even non-member if so desired) of the group can edit pages using a simple syntax. this way, stuff doesn't get lost (as they sometimes do in emails).

oh, i'm using maroon. :)

MY COMMENTS FOR LIZ'S SUGGESTIONS:

#2: very good! shall we put this as one of your annual project as Fellowships Moderator *blink*

#3: very good! actually we're doing this on initiative. maybe we can let also other members know if we're online in YM or SKYPE available for chat. I saw that feature in J.Angelo's, any idea on how we can do that also to our BB? Mr. Techie, J. Angelo...you there?...

*** do you have this exel of the membership info? Maybe you can coordinate with Bing because she needs the Bio-data of our members for her project ANG ATING ULIRANG GURO. The rest are good too.

MY COMMENTS FOR ZARELLE:

As the PTN Overseas Membership Moderator, please also encourage them to meet-up or have an EB and talk about PTN projects in their locality. They will let us know naman, so you won't have problems being a historian of their activities. Those who are overseas PTN members, please encourage them to post pictures too, we learn a lot from pictures.

The rest are good.

hello everyone!

i finally got the chance to tinker with the sidebar. blog-city is easy to use, but it does not seem so easy to customize. i've gotten used to working with html, but this does not seem to be possible with blog-city. someone please tell me if i'm wrong.

i've made some minor changes like centering the PTN logo and the credit to jonas, deleting "Syndicate this site" (which i think is redundant because if people know what syndication means, then they will know what the feedburner logo is for), inserted a line between the paypal logos and teacher liz's photo (just to make it clear that the donation is not for the ulirang guro LOL!) and put the two paypal logos side by side.

i would like to make more changes, but i'm not sure if i have authority to do so. i would also like to know if i can ask that additions to the sidebar be sent to me for editing kasi some of them are rather long. i don't mean ulirang guro (although i would suggest that it should be given its own post and then just put a photo and link in the sidebar), but announcements, job openings, etc. kasi po kung napakahaba ng sidebar, i don't think people will read to the end.

i would also like to propose that we give the long lists (core group, members', teachers' and students' blogs) a page each and put links in the sidebar, so that people can just click on them if they want to look. what i think should be emphasized are the resources that teachers can use. tama po ba ang iniisip ko?

sige po, yan na lang muna.
